Lagos, Nigeria: The Sabo Police Station on Tuesday arraigned a 49-year-old pastor, Moyo Martins, before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly cutting off the fingers of a two-year-old child, Saidat Faleye.
The incident happened on Olumo Street, Iwaya Onike, Yaba, Lagos State. Read story as reported by Punch after the cut...

It was learnt that the mother of the victim, Mrs. Bola Faleye, had left her in the care of Martins on Thursday, when she wanted to take her bath.

After she was gone, the child and the suspect were said to have been together in his room. About five minutes later, our correspondent gathered that the child suddenly let out a loud shriek of pain which drew the attention of neighbours.

Justice And The Killer Cop

NOT surprisingly, and for good reasons too, security agencies, in particular the Nigeria Police, have been placed on the spot by local and international human rights communities for their highhandedness in dealing with suspects in custody or at points of arrest. It is a bold statement that the law frowns at cruelty by uniformed officers of the state and that an appropriate premium is placed on life by the Nigerian state.   That judgment would not bring back the dead, but it should to some extent console their grieving families that justice was served to the guilty. It would equally serve as a deterrent to trigger-h...
