President Goodluck Jonathan Monday summoned Nigeria’s interior minister, Abba
Moro and the Immigration Services boss David Paradang, two days after at least
18 people died during a recruitment test organised by the agency.
According to a report by PM news, the tests conducted nationwide saw thousands of job seekers, flooding
different venues, leading to a stampede and sporadic shooting by security
operatives.
The deaths have sparked massive condemnation and calls for the resignation of
Moro and Paradang.
According to reports, both men spent over one hour in the office of the Chief
of Staff to Jonathan, before they met the president.
They declined press interviews thereafter.
At the inauguration of the National Conference, President Jonathan said
government would get to the root of the tragedy.
He called for a minute silence for the dead.
“As we were preparing for this inauguration a very sad incident happened on
Saturday. We are looking into the circumstances but we wouldn’t want to bore you
with the circumstances now.’’
