                  I don't have pics of the new born baby yet, you all have to make do with the clip art.  A new born baby was found on Friday morning at a refuse dump at Ikugbonmilere Street, Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.   The woman suspected to be the baby’s mother denied the allegation, saying she gave birth to a Tortoise, and not a human.   An eyewitness revealed that people who went to the suspected mother’s residence for further investigation saw traces of blood.   The woman has however, been taken to a nearby police station for further questioning, while the baby was taken to the palace of the traditional ruler in the town.   More Details later.         Source: Punch

                          A 19-year-old boy, Ahmed Jimoh, has been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing a woman named Grace Ilekure with a commercial tricycle popularly called Keke Napep . The incident reportedly occurred along Commercial Avenue in Sabo-Yaba area of Lagos.   Jimoh was said to have crushed Ilekure, while driving his tricycle “recklessly and dangerously” on the highway.   The deceased was said to have sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in the area. She however died some days after the incident.   It was learnt that the family of the deceased decided to take up the matter with Jimoh, leading to his arrest for the offence.   He was arraigned on two counts of manslaughter.   The charges read in part, “That you, Ahmed Jimoh, on or about the 26th day of March, 2013 while driving along Commercial Avenue, Sabo-Yaba in the Yaba Magisterial District and being the rider of a tricycle with Registration No

  A retired lieutenant colonel, who was said to have led the Boko Haram attacks on Damaturu, Yobe State, on Thursday was arrested by security forces during the encounter.   The retired army officer is being detained at a military facility.   It could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report if he has been moved to Abuja for interrogation or not.   The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. This is good news for Algeria, the Nation just hit boom in its resources. The Country's Energy Minister Youcef Yousfi announced Saturday that its national energy firm Sonatrach recently discovered a major oil field with almost 1.3 billion barrels of deposits in Amguid Messaoud, south of the country which is 112 kilometres (70 miles) from Hassi Messaoud, the largest oil field in Algeria.   The Minister further told the nations news agency APS  during a visit to the discovery site that the discovery near Amguid Messaoud is “one of the most important that Sonatrach has made in the past 20 years,”.   Yousfi said Sonatrach would have to use non-conventional methods to extract oil from the new field, adding an extra 10 percent to the costs, according to Sonatrach official Said Sahnoun.

An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a dismissed Mobile policeman (MOPOL), Omopariola Muritala, 42, to 30 months in prison for unlawfully deserting the force and unlawfully collecting salary.   The convict, who had earlier been found guilty by the police disciplinary committee and dismissed in accordance with the laws of the Police Force, pleaded guilty to the charges.   The prosecutor, Inspector John Idoko, told the committee during the summary trial that the convict was a police officer attached to Police Mobile Force (PMF) 39, Nigeria Police, Osogbo.   According to Idoko, the convict deserted his unit by secretly dropping his police kit and leaving without lawful excuse in December 2012.   “The convict later went ahead to make withdrawals between 2012 and May 2013 to the tune of N230,000 from his police account through the use of his ATM card.   “He (Muritala) was, however, apprehended on July 27, tried, convicted and dismissed by the pol

  The police in Lagos have arrested a couple, Mr and Mrs Solomon, for allegedly stabbing their neighbour, Miss Happiness Andrew, 25, during a quarrel over dustbin.   The victim, who has been hospitalised, was  allegedly stabbed in the neck and face with a broken bottle and with a knife following a little misunderstanding.   Hapiness fell down almost unconscious as blood gushed profusely from her neck and face. The Nigerian police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 34-year-old man, Omowuyi Kelvin, over alleged rape of a 25-year old girl he met on Facebook.   Kelvin, who was charged before an Isheri Magistrates’ Court, lives at Shangisha, a suburb of Lagos. He is facing a two-count charge of rape and stealing.   The prosecutor, Insp Nurudeen Thomas, told the court that the accused committed the offences at 8.00p.m., on 15 October at his residence. The accused invited his victim all the way from Benin to Lagos. “On arrival, the accused unlawfully detained her for five days in a room, had carnal knowledge of her and stripped her of N5,000, among other valuables,” he said.   He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.   Section 258 provides for life imprisonment for rape, while Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for theft. Detectives attached to the Obosi Police Division in Anambra State have arrested a man, Tonna Enedo from the Umuezeshime royal family in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his mother.   Enedo spoke yesterday on why he killed his mother.   He blamed the incident on his quest to make money at all cost, adding that he was lured into a fraternity.   He said he has slept in the mortuary for seven hours as part of the money-making rituals.   Tonna said: “I was asked by the chief priest of the society that if I wanted to be rich, I should go and have fun with a mad woman. A group of anti-corruption protesters was today in Abuja confronted by armed hoodlums escorted by the police to frustrate a public protest aimed at forcing the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, to resign from office.   The Minister is facing a public uproar over her scandalous purchase of BMW armoured cars from a cash-strapped agency in her ministry.   Dino Melaye, a former member of the House of Representatives, led the protest, but the protesters were attacked by the crowd who claimed they were there to ‘support’ the Minister.   The police arrested several protesters, including Mr. Melaye, saying he was leading an “illegal protest”. He was taken in a car to the office of the Commissioner of Police office where he was taken into custody.   The police also seized vehicles belonging to the anti-corruption protesters, claiming they were obstructing traffic.   A contingent of police officers also prevented the protesters from leaving the Federal Secretariat area

Many graves have been reportedly dismantled and their corpses exhumed in Ijoko, Ifo Local Government, Ogun State, in the ongoing demolition exercise of the state government. Residents told PUNCH Metro that the number was expected to rise as the state continued to take down houses in its road expansion project.   PUNCH Metro had, on Tuesday, reported the demolition of several buildings and structures along the Yakoyo/Alagbole road and the Ijoko/Sango areas by the Ogun State Government. The demolition was said to be have been carried out in preparation for the expansion of the said roads.   Our correspondent gathered that while some of the corpses had been interred for as long as 30 years, a few were said to have been in the graves for about eight years or less.   PUNCH Metro counted three of such exhumed graves when our correspondent visited Ijoko.
