We Will Not Cut Down Our Allowance - SENATE

With the debts federal and state government owe workers and the economic plunge of the country, one would think our leaders would be sympathetic to needs of the Nigerian citizens but obviously not.... at the recent senate hearing, the senate stood down the report to review their spendings till later... you all know what that implies. THEY WOULDN'T CUT DOWN THEIR SPENDINGS OR ALLOWANCES!!!!!!!!!! Selfish lots i must say and typically as always we would protest on social media for one week and the issue swept under carpet.
According to a report by PM NEWS, the Senate after an hour close door session on Wednesday, stood down the report of its ad hoc committee on the Review of National Assembly Finance, for further consideration.
The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who made the disclosure after the session, said the essence was to carry out further consideration on the report.
“The senate in a closed door session deliberated on the report of its committee on finance and approved that it should be stood down for further consideration,” he said.
NAN recalls that on June 25, Saraki constituted the ad hoc committee on finance to review salaries, allowances and overhead cost of running the National Assembly.
The committee was constituted to realign the finance of lawmakers to reflect the present economic realities in the country.
NAN recalls that following concerns raised by Nigerians about lawmakers’ wardrobe allowances, Mr Elias Mbam, Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), met with the President of the Senate on June 17.
In the meeting, Mbam said the 2008 Remuneration Act was being reviewed and would be ready at the end of the third quarter of 2015.
Meanwhile, the Senate had confirmed Mr Abdullahi Kaugama as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Jigawa in accordance with Section 143 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
At Wednesday’s plenary, six bills, including National Development Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill 2015, and Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (Repeal and re-enactment) Bill 2015, scaled first reading.
Others are Nigerian Agricultural Processing Zones (Establishment) Bill 2015, Labour transportation Bill (2015), Erosion Control and Prevention Commission (Establishment) Bill 2015 and National commission for ecological Problems (Establishment) Bill 2015.
The Senate also received reports of its ad hoc committee on Legislative Agenda for the Senate and ad hoc committee on Local and Foreign Debts on the Edo State Credit Facility of N75 million from the World Bank.

10 Burnt To Death In Lagos Tanker Fire

      No fewer than 10 people were roasted as a tanker laden with petrol went up in flames yesterday at Berger Suya junction, Apapa, Lagos.   Also, several buildings, eight vehicles, and over 200 locked-up shops including a commercial bank in the area were razed.   The fire which started at about 10:30pm on Tuesday and raged till 3:00am yesterday was said to have been caused by a tanker laden with 33,000 liters of petrol which lost control as it was about to negotiate a sharp bend and exploded close to Suya spots in the area.   Several passengers in two commercial buses, by-standers, two Hausa suya vendors including the driver of the truck and the conductor were burnt beyound recognition as rescue workers were seen picking bones of parts of human beings into body bag.     Source: Vanguard

Mikel Obi Deserves This Award Says Yaya Toure And Highlights From The GLO-CAF Awards

It's a third straight African Footballer of the year award win for Manchester City star and 31-year-old Ivory Coast international  Yaya Toure.
