If you do follow Nigeria political trends then you recall that immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh said during his valedictory speech, 'that some Nigerian governments acceded to the demands of some foreign countries to reduce the size of the nation’s military and deprived the nation’s defence forces of the requisite funding and size'.
He also accused the government of not providing enough equipment to the military to tackle insurgency in the country and further disclosed that the Nigerian Army was under-funded and the personnel hardly trained.and
Last year, Badeh criticised the Governor of Borno State when he said the military was under-equipped and under-utilised following the news of the missing Chibok Girls.
Well, A member of the House of Representatives, AbdulRaheem Olajide Jimoh lashed back. Jimoh called on the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the valedictory speech of the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, and query him over his recent comments on the fight against insurgency in the country.
The legislator said this in a statement on Sunday by his media office in Lagos, noting that the statement credited to Badeh could demoralise other military officers.
Jimoh, who represents Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, said: “Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh’s comment is distractive and could demoralise other military personnel in the country.
“He should be careful and watchful. I want to advise President Mohammadu Buhari to invite him and query him accordingly.
“If Alex Badeh has anything to say at all as the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, he ought to have discussed it personally with President Muhammadu Buhari and advise him accordingly.
“Why is he making such comments after his retirement? It is rather unfortunate and it’s not good for the country’s military personnel. He further stated,... it is not expected of a person who has just retired from the military to make comments considered unguarded at this time when the country is encouraging its troop to effectively combat insurgency. He also advised other military personnel, particularly those in top positions, to be careful of what they say in public.
