  A northern Missouri man was prevented from attempting to save his stepson from a burning home by police officers who used stun guns to halt him.   ST. LOUIS — The family of a 3-year-old killed in a northern Missouri house fire is outraged after police used a stun gun on the boy’s stepfather as he tried to run back in and save the child.   Riley Jeffrey Rieser Miller died early Oct. 31 in the Mississippi River town of Louisiana. A city police officer fired his stun gun at Ryan Miller, 31, as he tried to re-enter his burning home, according to a city official. The house was destroyed.   Lori Miller said she witnessed two officers use their stun guns on her son a total of three times, twice after Ryan Miller had been handcuffed. Nigeria’s University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Friday said it had conducted the second successful stem cell transplant for a 15- year-old sickle cell patient in Benin.   Dr Nosakhare Bazuaye, consultant Haematologist and Coordinator of UBTH stem cell transplant centre, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.   UBTH is the only hospital in Nigeria and West Africa performing such transplant.   Bazuaye, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Michael Ibadin, said that the operation was successful and that the patient’s genotype had changed from SS to AA. “In 2011, we announced our first transplant for a patient that had sickle cell disease.   “We have done a second successful transplant for a 15-year-old boy whose transplant took place 102 days ago. The first patient that was transplanted is two years post transplant now, his haemoglobin is AA and he is perfectly okay.   ...

An 11-year old pupil of Ogundimu Primary School, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, identified as Chioma Nwaonumah has been electrocuted on her way from school.   The incident happened on Kayode Street. A man who had paraded himself as an operative of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by Justice Yakubu Gyang Dakwak of the Jos High Court in the central Nigerian state of Plateau.   The man, Mohammed Umar, alias Terror, was convicted , for offences bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and impersonation.   Umar was arrested in October 2008 following intelligence report that he had been posing as an operative of the EFCC and extorting money from top government functionaries in Bauchi, Gombe and Sokoto States under the pretext that he had damning petitions against them.   He cajoled several of them into wiring funds into his account with a promise to help stop any investigations into the petitions.   One of the three-count charge against the convict reads, “”That you, Mohammed Umar and Mustapha Abdullahi (now at large), sometime in 2008 at Jos, Judicial Division o...

Britain is scrapping a plan to force visitors from six “high-risk” countries to pay a cash bond of £3,000 (US $4,800, 3,500 euros), the interior ministry said on Sunday.   The government had been preparing to pilot a scheme requiring visitors from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ghana and Nigeria to pay the deposit for a six-month visa.   They would have forfeited the money if they overstayed.   “The government has been considering whether we pilot a bond scheme that would deter people from overstaying the visa.                   I don't have pics of the new born baby yet, you all have to make do with the clip art.  A new born baby was found on Friday morning at a refuse dump at Ikugbonmilere Street, Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.   The woman suspected to be the baby’s mother denied the allegation, saying she gave birth to a Tortoise, and not a human.   An eyewitness revealed that people who went to the suspected mother’s residence for further investigation saw traces of blood.   The woman has however, been taken to a nearby police station for further questioning, while the baby was taken to the palace of the traditional ruler in the town.   More Details later.         Source: Punch

                          A 19-year-old boy, Ahmed Jimoh, has been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing a woman named Grace Ilekure with a commercial tricycle popularly called Keke Napep . The incident reportedly occurred along Commercial Avenue in Sabo-Yaba area of Lagos.   Jimoh was said to have crushed Ilekure, while driving his tricycle “recklessly and dangerously” on the highway.   The deceased was said to have sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in the area.   A retired lieutenant colonel, who was said to have led the Boko Haram attacks on Damaturu, Yobe State, on Thursday was arrested by security forces during the encounter.   The retired army officer is being detained at a military facility.   It could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report if he has been moved to Abuja for interrogation or not.   The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.
